Review of the National Ethical Standards for Health and Disability Research and Quality Improvement
It has been just over a year since the revised National Ethical Standards for Health and Disability Research and Quality Improvement(external link) were published. The Standards apply to all health and disability research and quality improvement in New Zealand and set out the ethical requirements that:
- researchers must meet or exceed when undertaking health and disability research
- health service providers and disability service providers must meet or exceed when conducting quality improvement activities. (Health service providers include health service workers, nurses, clinicians and any person involved in quality improvement.)
The intention is that the Standards are a living document, reviewed annually, and updated where necessary to ensure that they stay fit for purpose.
The National Ethics Advisory Committee is interested to hear your valuable feedback about how you are finding working with the Standards, and any suggested amendments or improvements you have. We will accept the feedback in any form however it would be most helpfully received through tracked changes and comments on the Word copy of the Standards [DOCX, 7.7 MB], submitted by email.
We will also be holding online meetings towards the end of the consultation, for those who would like to talk through their feedback in person. Please let us know via email if you would like to do this at neac@health.govt.nz and we will arrange a meeting date.
